Comment
Produced at the Tower Mint, London.Note: there are two versions of the obverse for 2017.
The original (on left) was very flat, and the Isle of Man government was not happy,
so ordered more (on right) but with a better head.
Dexter the Falcon features on the coat of arms as homage to King Henry IV, who in 1405 asked that the King be presented with two Falcons on Coronation Day.
Sinister the Raven represents the strong Viking element in the Manx history. Odin the Norse god was always accompanied two Ravens.
Interesting fact
The Peregrine Falcon and Raven design on the 1 Pound coin from the Isle of Man features a unique aspect – the Peregrine Falcon is depicted in a diving pose, with its wings closed, while the Raven is shown in a flying pose, with its wings spread. This design represents the contrast between the two birds' hunting styles, with the Peregrine Falcon being a fast and agile hunter, and the Raven being a scavenger that feeds on carrion.
