The design was first issued in 2004, this issue was struck as part of a set of 14 different £1 designs with selected gold plating to the reverse (2,005 sales), issued to mark the twenty fifth anniversary of the first issue of the UK one pound coin in 1983 with an issue limit of 3,000 for the complete set.
