Originally introduced in 1988 and paired with the Maklouf third obverse portrait, the Derek Gorringe 'Crowned Royal Arms' reverse design has been used a total of three times in silver proof. The second edition was issued in 2008 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the pound coin and was selectively gold plated on the reverse. This issue was released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the pound coin in a 3-coin set, which was issued alongside the Royal Arms design by Eric Sewell and the Royal Shield design by Matthew Dent. It was also issued in gold proof. Issue limit: 3,500.
