Arabic inscription in two lines
Script: Arabic
Lettering:
السلطان
العادل
Unabridged legend: al-sulṭan al-'adil
Translation: The just sultan
Comment
The lettering is often incomplete and difficult to read. The observe lettering has the rasm of “معز” which suggest Sultan Mu’iz ad-Din Ahmad at Menduga (1326 - ca. 1360), a relatively little known sultan (see Leyten, 2004: 41). Zeno catalogue entry and several auction listing however attribute this coin to Sultan Zain al-Abidin I (ca. 1360 - ca. 1370).
