The Pattern 1 Pie coin was designed by the renowned engraver and artist, Thomas Wyon, who was also responsible for designing several other coins and medals for the British East India Company. Wyon's design for the Pattern 1 Pie coin featured a unique blend of Indian and British elements, with the obverse side bearing the image of a lion standing on a crown, surrounded by a wreath of lotus flowers, while the reverse side featured a stylized image of the British royal coat of arms. This coin was never officially circulated and was instead produced as a pattern or trial piece, making it a rare and highly sought-after collector's item among numismatists.
