Interesting fact
The Pattern 1 Piastre coin was designed by the French engraver, Albert Mestre, and features a unique blend of French and Indochinese elements. On one side, the coin depicts the profile of a young woman wearing a traditional Vietnamese hat, while the other side features the French motto "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity) surrounded by rice stalks and bamboo. This coin was minted in 1946 as a pattern coin, meaning it was not intended for circulation but rather as a trial or sample coin. As a result, only a small number of these coins were produced, making them highly sought after by collectors today.
