Interesting fact
The Pattern 1 Piastre coin was designed by the French engraver, Albert Decaris, who was known for his work on various coins and banknotes throughout the French colonies. Decaris' design for the Pattern 1 Piastre features a portrait of a young woman representing the French colonies, surrounded by rice stalks and the inscription "Union Française" (French Union). The reverse side of the coin depicts the French coat of arms and the denomination "1 Piastre". The coin was minted in 1946, during the brief period of French rule in Indochina following World War II, and was intended to replace the existing currency used in the colonies. However, the coin was never widely circulated and is now considered a rare collector's item.
