Comment

The cross on the obverse is a symbol to show the participation of Theoderich II. von Wied at the crusades, the same cross that was worn on their garments. Theoderich who shares the same name as his father followed his footsteps in travelling to the holy land in 1216.
The battles on Mount Tabor inspired him on his return in 1217 to rename the city around castle Humbach into 'Mons Tabor' which is nowadays called the city of Montabaur.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted during the reign of Theoderich II of Wied, who was the Archbishop of Trier from 1212 to 1242. This coin is a rare example of a silver coin minted during his reign, as most coins from this time period were made of copper or other base metals. The fact that it was made of silver suggests that it may have been used for special purposes or ceremonial events, rather than for everyday transactions.
