Interesting fact
This coin was designed by German engraver and sculptor, Reinhart Heydrich, who was known for his work on various German coins and medals during the early 20th century. The Pattern 1 Pfennig was one of his earliest designs, created in 1915, and it features a depiction of a German eagle on the obverse side, while the reverse side shows the denomination and the year of minting. The use of zinc as the material for this coin was a deliberate choice to reduce the cost of production, given the economic challenges faced by Germany during World War I. Despite its humble material, the Pattern 1 Pfennig remains a sought-after collector's item among numismatists today.
