Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (German: Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg) was a duchy ruled by the Ernestine branch of the House of Wettin in today's Thuringia, Germany. The extinction of the line in 1825 led to a major re-organisation of the Thuringian states.

Interesting fact

The 1 Pfennig coin from the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg was minted during the reign of Frederick III, who was the Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg from 1753 to 1760. The coin was made of copper and had a diameter of 19mm. It featured an image of Frederick III on one side and the coat of arms of the duchy on the other. The coin was used as a standard circulation coin in the German States during that time. I hope that's helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions.
