Comment

The Norwegian scientist Thor Heyerdahl sailed from Peru, South America to Polynesian Islands to prove his theory that primitive inhabitants of Polynesia and South America had common etnical roots, and could have emigrated using log rafts.

The log raft "Kon - Tiki" with sail was constructed by his team of 6 people, using the ancient technologies and materials, and on 1947 they performed the journey successfully.

In spite the team had some modern articles, like maps, radio and sailing devices, these elements were not relevant to prove the theory.

Interesting fact

The Kon-Tiki coin's design features an image of the Kon-Tiki raft, which was used by Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl in 1947 to cross the Pacific Ocean from South America to the Polynesian islands, in an effort to prove that the ancient people of South America could have colonized the Pacific islands.
