Comment

The Martí Centenary series (1c, 25c, 50c. and 1$ originally was designed sharing same obverse (the one of 25c), but when the trials were ready, was considered boring all being the same generics, so decided to change obverse, showing details of National Symbols. In this coin, shows part of the upper field of the coat of arms, where the rising sun represents the new Republic, and the key represents Cuba (known as the key of Caribs); on the coat of arms are shown 2 land points on sides of the key; they represent the Florida and Yucatan peninsulas with Cuba between them . See the other coins for the rest of details.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1953 Cuban 1 Peso coin featuring José Martí is that it was minted during a time of significant political change in Cuba. The coin was issued in the year following the Cuban Revolution, which saw the overthrow of the authoritarian government of Fulgencio Batista and the rise to power of Fidel Castro and the Communist Party. This coin, featuring a prominent national hero like José Martí, was likely meant to symbolize the new government's connection to Cuba's revolutionary past and its commitment to socialist ideals.
