Comment
The "Peso del Sitio" was the first and only silver coin minted at Uruguay, the first silver coin on the River Plate region, as well as the las siege coin on latin America. The "Peso del Sitio" was the first and only silver coin minted at Uruguay. As city was under siege, the silver was provided by citizens and this is the reason of the short mintage.
Also was the first coin bearing the National coat of arms on obverse, and shows a circle of 9 5-pointed stars, symbolizing the 9 departments of the current division of the country.
Medal alignment version is more scarce than coin version.
