This coin resume the design of the silver 1 Peso coin minted from 1915 to 1933, but using a cheaper metal, and smaller diameter. Also motto changed from "PATRIA Y LIBERTAD" to "PATRIA O MUERTE".

Interesting fact

The 1 Peso coin from Cuba features a portrait of José Martí, a Cuban national hero and one of the leaders of the country's fight for independence against Spain. The coin's design was created by Cuban artist and sculptor, José Delarra, and it has been used on various Cuban coins since 1983.
