Comment

Johannes Paulus Kruger (1825-1904) was a prominent Boer leader against British rule and president of the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republic (1883-1902) which later became the Transvaal Colony under British rule and then the Transvaal Province of the Union of South Africa.

The coins of the 1892 issue were struck at the Royal Prussian Mint in Berlin, all others were struck at the South African Republic's Mint in Pretoria.

Hern#Z2 Rare 1893 issue Most pennies minted in 1893 were struck with the 1892 dies, making the 1893 dated penny the rarest variety. No numbers exist for the exact number of pennies minted with 1893 dies.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique design, with a portrait of President Paul Kruger on the obverse side, and a springbok antelope on the reverse side, which is a symbol of South Africa.
