Comment

The standard weight of these pieces was 48 to the pound avoirdupois (1/3 ounce or 145.8 grains)

The 1950 and 1951 circulation pennies were produced only for the colonies as none were needed in Britain. During 1956, the entire 1950 mintage (still held in stock in Britain) and three-quarters of the 1951 production were sent to Bermuda.

Interesting fact

The 1949-1952 George VI penny is notable for being the first coin to feature the image of King George VI without the legend 'IND:IMP' (short for "Industriae Imperator" or "Emperor of Industry") on the reverse side. This change in design was made to reflect the shift in the King's role from a symbol of imperial power to a symbol of national leadership and reconstruction after World War II.
