The Dromedaris is one of the three vessels which brought Jan van Riebeeck and his small group of settlers to South Africa from Holland in 1652 in order to establish a refreshment station on behalf of the Dutch East India Company.
Interesting fact
The 1 Penny coin from South Africa featuring King George V was part of a series of coins minted during the transition from the Cape of Good Hope pound to the South African pound. This coin was minted in 1923 and 1924, and it was the first coin to feature the image of King George V, who had recently ascended to the throne. The coin was made of bronze and had a distinctive design, with the king's image on one side and the value of the coin on the other. It was a significant change from the previous coins minted in the Cape of Good Hope, which featured a portrait of Queen Victoria. The introduction of this coin marked a new era in South African currency and paved the way for the country's transition to a new monetary system.
