The standard weight of this coin was 1/44 troy ounce or 10.9 grains. Struck for colonial use in Ceylon, where it was worth 4 stivers (1 fanam) and the West Indies (Jamaica, British Guiana and Trinidad) where it was equivalent to 1/4 real.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1838-1870 United Kingdom 1½ Pence coin is that it was minted with a silver composition of .925, which is higher than the standard .900 silver purity used in many other coins of the time. This higher silver content made the coin more valuable and sought after by collectors.
