The interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted during the reign of Leopold II, who was the last Grand Duke of Tuscany and later became the Emperor of Austria. The coin features his portrait on one side and the Tuscan coat of arms on the other. It was minted in 1831, the year that Leopold II took the throne, and was used as a standard circulation coin in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany until 1838, when Leopold II abdicated and the Grand Duchy was annexed by the Austrian Empire.
