Also known as "Star Pagoda".
This type is one of the 1800 Australian Proclamation coins. In 1800 the then-Governor of New South Wales, Philip Gidley King issued a proclamation that ten specific British, Netherlands, Indian, Portuguese and Spanish coins were to be brought into the colony and given inflated denominations than what was indicated on the coins so that they would say in circulation in the colony. This Pagoda had a value of 8 Shillings.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1 Pagoda ND (1740-1807) coin from Madras Presidency (British India) and Australia is that it was made of gold and weighed 3.43 grams. This is notable because gold coins were not commonly used in circulation during this time period, and the fact that this coin was made of gold suggests that it may have been used for special purposes or as a symbol of wealth and power. Additionally, the fact that it was issued in both Madras Presidency (British India) and Australia highlights the historical connection between these two regions and the British Empire.
