Comment
The Basilica Cathedral of Lima is a Catholic cathedral located on the Plaza Mayor in downtown Lima, Peru. Its initial construction dates back to the founding of Lima, when Francisco Pizarro built a temple that opened in 1540 and was converted into a cathedral by Paul III in 1541. It then underwent numerous phases of enlargement and reconstruction, not least because of the earthquakes that regularly damaged it. The cathedral houses the tomb of Lima's founder, Francisco Pizarro. It is dedicated to Saint John, apostle and evangelist.
