Comment
Starting in 1587 and ending around 1810, the Sultanate of Gowa (located in the southwest of Celebes Island), issued gold Kupang and Mas coins under several different sultans. I Mangari Daeng Manrabbia Sultan Alau'ddin, titled Tumenanga ri Gaukanna, reigned in Gowa from 1593 to 1639.While these coins were previously quite scarce and costly (priced by Stephen Album Coins at $500+), a hoard of approximately 140 coins was found and sold off in the 1990s, drastically increasing their affordability. Compared to their contemporaries in Aceh, the coins of the Gowa Sultanate are quite crude and poorly struck.

Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted during the reign of Sultan Alauddin, who was known for his strong leadership and military conquests, expanding the Sultanate of Gowa's territory and influence in the region.
