Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the coin is that it was minted during a time of economic turmoil in Sweden, known as the "Klipping" era, which lasted from 1598 to 1604. During this time, the government issued a large number of coins with lower silver content than usual, in order to address a shortage of silver and to pay for military expenses. This coin, the 1 Mark "Klippingar" - Karl as Duke of Södermanland 1598, was minted during this period and features Karl, the Duke of Södermanland, on one side and the coat of arms of Södermanland on the other. Despite its lower silver content, the coin was still widely accepted and used in trade, and it remains a valuable collector's item today.
