Interesting fact
The 1 Mark coin from the German Democratic Republic was designed by artist Heinz Gödecke and features a portrait of a young woman symbolizing the "German Democratic Republic" on the obverse (front side), while the reverse (back side) features the coat of arms of the GDR, which includes a hammer, a compass, and a wreath of wheat. The coin was minted from 1972 to 1990 and was made of aluminum, weighing 2.4 grams.
