Interesting fact

The 1 Lira coin from Malta, minted in 1986, was the first coin to feature the Maltese Cross, a symbol of the Order of Saint John, on its reverse side. The Maltese Cross is a symbol of the Knights Hospitaller, also known as the Order of Saint John, who ruled Malta from 1530 to 1798. The coin's design was created by the Maltese artist, Victor G. Debono, and it has become a distinctive feature of Maltese coins.
