Interesting fact
The Pattern 1 Leu coin was designed by the Romanian sculptor and engraver, Costin Petrescu, and it features a portrait of King Carol II on the obverse side, while the reverse side depicts the Romanian coat of arms. The coin was minted in 1941, during the reign of King Carol II, and it was intended to replace the previous coinage that had been in circulation since 1900. However, due to the political instability and the outbreak of World War II, the coin was never officially released into circulation and only a small number of pattern coins were struck. As a result, the Pattern 1 Leu (Pattern Strike) 1941 has become a highly sought-after collector's item among numismatists, and it is considered a rare and valuable piece of Romanian currency.
