At the age of 17, Otto, Prince of Bavaria, was commissioned by the Great Powers in 1832 to become King of Greece.Under the name of Otto I, he pursued an authoritarian policy. Not to the liking of the Greeks, he was forced to accept a constitution in 1843. Finally, the popular revolt of 1862 drove him out; he went into exile in Bavaria.
He was succeeded the following year by William of Denmark.
