These coins were introduced in 1931 to supplement the circulation of United States , as they were the same value at the time. United States coins gradually left circulation over the next decade. Due to a shortage of national currency in 1943, Half Dollars were imported to circulate alongside these pieces.

Interesting fact

The 1 Lempira coin from Honduras, minted between 1931 and 1937, features the national coat of arms on one side and a portrait of General Francisco Morazán, a prominent figure in Honduran history, on the other.
