Comment

Nayakas of Madurai ruled Madurai and the surrounding regions as autonomous rulers from 1565 till 1736. This coin belong to the period 1600-1736 and it's part of "Sri Vi Ra" coins.
In some books, it was mentioned that the standing figure on the obverse is Lord Venkateswara, but actually it's Goddess Meenakshi, who is the primary goddess in Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1 Kasu coin from the Kingdom of Madurai is that it features a unique blend of Hindu and Islamic influences in its design. The coin's obverse side features a depiction of the Hindu goddess Lakshmi, while the reverse side bears an inscription in Tamil, a Dravidian language spoken in southern India and Sri Lanka. This blending of religious and cultural influences reflects the diverse and syncretic nature of the Madurai Nayakas dynasty, which ruled over a region that was home to both Hindu and Muslim communities.
