After the fall of Vijayanagara empire, Nayaks of Madurai ruled Madurai and the surrounding regions as autonomous rulers from 1565 till 1736. This coin belong to the period 1600-1736 wherein the name of the capital city "Madurai" is inscribed in the coin in two languages - Kannada & Tamil.Interesting fact
