These coins were intended for circulation to replace the copper-nickel-zinc version (KM#296) but were not put into circulation because of hyperinflation.
Interesting fact
The Pattern 1 Inti 1988 coin was designed by the Peruvian artist, José María Velasco, and it features an image of the Inti, which is the ancient Inca god of the sun. The coin was minted in 1988 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Inti Raymi, a religious festival that was celebrated by the Incas in honor of the sun god. The coin's design is inspired by the traditional Andean art and symbolism, and it is considered a rare and valuable collector's item among numismatists.
