Interesting fact
The 1 Grano coin was the first coin to feature the portrait of a Maltese ruler, Grand Master Antoine de Paule, on its obverse side. This was a departure from the traditional design of Maltese coins, which typically featured the coat of arms of the Order of Saint John. The inclusion of the Grand Master's portrait was a sign of the increasing power and influence of the Order in Malta during the 17th century.
