Comment
During the first foreign occupation of Genoa, this important trade coin was modified in only two subtle ways: the trefoil decorations are replaced by fleur-de-lis, and the obverse inscription bears Charles' titles of King of the Franks and Lord of Genoa (Dominus Ianuensis).
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1 Genovino coin is that it was minted during the reign of Charles VI of France, who was also known as Charles the Mad. He was the king of France from 1380 until his death in 1422, and his reign was marked by mental illness and political instability. Despite these challenges, the coinage of Genoa, including the 1 Genovino, continued to be minted and used throughout his reign.
