Comment

This coin is listed in Krause; however, more information is needed on its origins, as well as what exactly the legend says.

The pictures in Krause are low enough quality that the obverse legend cannot be deciphered. On the reverse, the denomination is certain, at it appears the place of origin is written at the top. While the coin is listed in Krause as a no-date coin, the upper and lower legend is separated by flowers, with the bottom portion being wide enough to include a possible date (something that is commonly done with these Soviet pieces).

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1 Fen coin from the Hunan-Hupeh-Kiangsi Soviet of the Republic of China is that it was designed by the famous Chinese painter and calligrapher, Xu Beihong. Xu Beihong was known for his contributions to modern Chinese art and his designs for the Hunan-Hupeh-Kiangsi Soviet coins are considered some of his most notable works. The 1 Fen coin features a stunning image of a farmer and a worker, symbolizing the unity of the working class and the peasantry, and is considered a rare and valuable collector's item among numismatists.
