Interesting fact

The 1 Escudo coin from Portugal features a unique design that showcases the country's rich history and culture. On one side of the coin, there is an image of the Portuguese coat of arms, which includes a shield with five quinas (a symbol of the country's historical provinces) and a crown. On the other side, there is an image of the famous Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama, who is credited with discovering the sea route to India in the late 15th century. This design was chosen to commemorate the 500th anniversary of da Gama's voyage.
