Comment
This coin is a bit of a mystery, since the only siege coinage known to be made in Groningen comes from the siege in 1672 by the Bishop of Münster (Bommen Berend he was named in jest = bombing Berend; which is still the name of the yearly city festival on 28 of august commemorating the end of this siege), so it is not clear how a coin from 1682 could be related to this siege ....Also never seen any other example of it, or found any later siege in the history of Groningen.
Interesting fact
The 1 Duit (Klippe) coin from the Province of Groningen and the Ommelanden (Dutch Republic) in 1682 is interesting because it was made of copper, which was a common material for coins at that time, but it weighed only 1.4 grams, making it one of the lightest coins in circulation. This is notable because it shows that even small, seemingly insignificant details, like the weight of a coin, can provide insight into the economic and monetary systems of a particular time and place.
