Comment

The duiten from 1645 are very rare and possibly minted for use in Ceylon.

In 1660 and 1663, a smaller variety measuring approximatively 17mm has also been issued with the permission of the Staten Generaal of the United 7 Dutch Republics (Vereenigde Nederlandse Republieken). Due to its smaller size, it was later sometimes wrongly seen as a 1/2 duit.

Interesting fact

The 1 Duit coin from West Friesland (Dutch Republic) was made of copper, which was a common material for coins at that time. However, what's interesting is that the coin was designed with a unique feature - a small hole in the center of the coin. This hole was intentionally made to allow the coin to be threaded onto a string or cord, making it easier for people to carry and store. This design feature was known as a "holey dollar" and was a distinct characteristic of coins from this region during that time period.
