These coins were minted to pay the ransom of 400,000 ducats to the Landsknecht troops of Charles V.
The mint was given over to Engelhard Schauer who speculated on the minting of silver coins.

Interesting fact
The 1 Ducato coin was minted during the papacy of Pope Clement VII, who was known for his controversial reign. He was the last pope to be crowned with the Imperial Crown of the Holy Roman Empire, and his papacy was marked by political intrigue and conflict with the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V. Despite this, the coin remains a valuable piece of history and a symbol of the papacy during that time.
