Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1621 Göttingen Kipper coin is that it was minted during a time of economic turmoil in Germany, known as the Kipper und Wipper inflation. This period of high inflation, which lasted from 1618 to 1623, was caused by the rapid devaluation of the German thaler, the standard unit of currency at the time. As a result, many cities and states began minting their own coins, including the City of Göttingen, which issued the 1 Dreier (Kipper) coin. Despite its low denomination, the coin was made of billon, a silver-copper alloy, which was a more valuable material than the copper or tin used in other low-denomination coins of the time. This suggests that the City of Göttingen was trying to maintain the value of its currency, even in the face of economic instability.
