The prototype for these coins is a Sasanian drachm of King Varhran V.

With King Kana's name being caried on to many future coins, it is quite possible this type continued to be minted posthumously.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it was used as a form of currency during the Bukhar Khudat dynasty, which was a Persianate Muslim dynasty that ruled Bukhara, a city in present-day Uzbekistan, from the 6th to the 8th centuries. The coin features an inscription in the Sogdian language, which was spoken in the region at the time.
