Comment

The Morgan Dollar was designed by Mint Chief Engraver George T. Morgan (1845-1925) and was minted from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921. This iconic silver dollar represented the country’s westward expansion and industrial development in the late 19th century.

In honor of the 100th anniversary of the last year of the ‘Morgan Dollar’ the United States Mint is proud to present the 2021 Morgan Dollar, created through the use of modern technology and historical U.S. Mint assets. It has a beautiful uncirculated finish.

Two of the issues also feature a “CC” or an "O" privy mark, in recognition of the historic Mint facilities located in Carson City, NV, and New Orleans, LA, where some of the original Morgan Dollars were minted.

Interesting fact

The Morgan Dollar is a non-circulating coin that was first introduced in 1878 and was minted until 1904, and then again in 1921. The 2021-2024 edition is a commemorative coin minted to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the coin's design. It is made of .999 silver and weighs 26.69 grams. One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique reverse design, which depicts an eagle with its wings outstretched, unlike the traditional Morgan Dollar design that shows an eagle with its wings folded. This design change was made to symbolize the freedom and strength of the American spirit.
