Coloured coin struck by the RAM but issued jointly by Australia Post randomly in one in ten of the Tubes of 10 coins from 3500 Post Offices Australia wide. The coin is part of a ten coin series of "Aussie Big Things". These "Big Things" are large constructed Tourist Attractions usually related to the area they are located in. Aussie Big Things is a celebration of the great Australian road trip. And with more than 200 of these massive landmarks scattered across the country, tourists and locals are propelled to ‘tick off’ the Big Things as they drive throughout Australia.
This coloured coin depicts "The Giant Murray Cod" which is located in the City of Swan Hill on the Victorian side of the Vic-NSW border. It is a tribute to a legendary native fish. Fifteen metres long, three metres wide and five metres high, the steel and fiberglass structure is at once a symbol of civic pride, an inducement for tourist snaps and highlights awareness that numbers of this species, once common in the Murray–Darling River system, have been greatly reduced.
This coloured coin was not issued into circulation. You could buy a "Press in Album" for the full set of 10 coins contained in a special tube including the album for $29. One in ten of the Tubed Set has this exclusive Coloured version of the "Giant Murray Cod" coin.
