Cuffyor Kofi (died in 1763), was an Akan man who was captured in his native West Africa for slavery to work in the plantations of the Dutch colony of Berbice in present-day Guyana. He became famous because he led a revolt of more than 2,500 slaves against the colony regime & is now known as Berbice Revolt (23 February 1763). Today, he is a national hero in Guyana.

Interesting fact

The 1970 Guyana FAO dollar coin features a unique design that showcases the country's rich agricultural heritage, with an image of a rice farmer and a sugar cane worker on the obverse side, and the national emblem of Guyana on the reverse side.
