Seismosaurus is a dinosaur that lived about 145-156 million years ago—during the Jurassic Period—in parts of Southern North America. It was initially discovered in the northern part of New Mexico by a group of hikers in 1979. Seismosaurus means “Earth shaking lizard.”These dinosaurs were approximately 120 feet long, 18 feet tall and weighed around 30 tons (as much as 3 trucks). It had an extremely large neck that many paleontologist believe was impossible for this dinosaur to have lifted. Therefore, it’s believed that they keep their heads parallel to the ground.Interesting fact
The Seismosaurus, which is featured on the 2002 Tuvalu $1 coin, is a type of sauropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, around 155 million years ago. It's known for its long, slender neck and tail, and is believed to be one of the longest animals to have ever lived on land, with some specimens reaching lengths of up to 100 feet (30 meters) or more!
