Now in its fourth decade and as popular as ever with investors, the Australian Kookaburra is an iconic silver bullion coin series featuring annual designs of one of Australia’s most recognisable birds. Famed for its raucous laughing call, the beady-eyed kookaburra is heard across Australia – from the outback to the back yard. The 2022 Australian Kookaburra design is a reminder of the chortling creature’s flourishing presence in suburban neighbourhoods. Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, Kookaburra silver bullion coins have been trusted for their weight and purity by investors worldwide since 1990.
First introduced in 1990, the Kookaburra series is the longest running series produced by the famed Perth Mint of Australia, as well as the first series to have a different reverse design for each year. This latest release is the 32nd coin of the series and will have a maximum mintage of 500,000. Minted in .9999 pure silver, this is the fifth coin since 2018 to have this purity of metal, the previous coins being minted in .999 pure silver.
A coloured version of the coin was issued at the World Money Fair 28-30 January 2022 in Berlin. (See link)
A version of the coin was issued in a coincard at the ANDA Perth Money Expo with a coloured Numbat Privymark. (2,000 Copies)
