Comment

The Royal Australian Mint as part of its exclusive subscription 'Mint Legends' members loyalty program released both specimen and proof versions (Fine Silver .999) of this coin. They were not available through regular channels. Orders were taken in February/March 2014 with delivery delayed until August 2014. This coin was the third in this series which commenced for Legends Members in 2012. The earlier two coins in the series were even more exclusive with only 100 of each of the 2012 coin minted which had the Arnold Machin only portrait on the reverse and 330/310 of the 2013 coin minted which had the Raphael David Makleouf portrait on the reverse. Both of the earlier coins had the IRB obverse.

The reverse design on this coin was a tribute to all three of the portraits used on Australian Decimal coins since 1966, ignoring Gottwald's commemorative portrait used once in 2000. The design features the three portraits in profile, Rank-Broadleys in front, Maklouf's in the middle and Machin's behind. This third exclusive release was by far the most popular of the three coins in the series with 1,000 proofs and 750 gem uncirculated coins issued.

The coins were housed encapsulated, in a black leatherette, hinged-lid presentation case, accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity and protected by a cardboard shipper.
