Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted to commemorate the opening of Australia's New Parliament House in Canberra, which took place on 9 May 1988. The coin's design features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the fourth portrait of her reign, and the inscription "1 DOLLAR" and "ELIZABETH II" on the obverse, while the reverse features an image of the New Parliament House building. The coin was made of silver with a purity of .999 and weighs 31.635 grams. It was issued as a non-circulating coin, meaning it was not intended for general circulation but rather as a collector's item.
