Comment

This silver gilded coin was introduced by the Perth Mint in 2016. Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the 2016 coin was struck from 1 ounce of 99.99% pure silver, with the bounding red kangaroo on the reverse gilded in 24-carat pure gold.

The Perth Mint designed a new packaging for this series, the cardboard box themed in blue with a yellow top and red bottom. The front design of the box remained essentially unchanged throughout, with only the year of mintage being changed with each succeeding coin. The 2016 gilded coin is encapsulated and was originally intended to be housed in special case with the Perth Mint swan logo. However this was changed to a standard black case without any logo. A numbered Certificate of Authenticity was included.
