This coin was issued by the Royal Australian Mint from 2015 to 2017 as part of a series of 26 different $1 Coloured Reverse Frosted Uncirculated Fine Silver (.999) Alphabet Coins which capture the love of Australian animals and the alphabet. They were issued individually in capsules in a plush case.Aluminium-bronze versions of the coin were also issued and could be collected individually as issued in a card or included as part of the Baby Mint Set. Hidden objects are found on the coins.
The silver coins were issued in 2015 with an Violet "W", 2016 with a Yellow "W" and 2017 with a Blue "W"
Three of the Coloured Fine Silver Reverse Frosted UNC coins (W, M, F) were released in a Special Coincard Set at the World Money Fair Berlin in 2016 (Mintage 1000):
