Those on board the first AIF convoy left Australia excited to facing Europe and the main theatre of war. Many were disappointed by their transfer to Egypt; they believed they had been sidelined and would miss out on the fighting. Training in Mena Camp did little to curb their frustration, but on 1 April 1915 they received news that they were bound for the front. After months of waiting, the ANZACs were going to join British forces in an amphibious assault on the Gallipoli peninsula.Interesting fact
